![]() ![]() One of the benefits of membership was that we could order many books pre-publication for a discount (10-20%? Help me out here folks with the numbers.) I did this for both of these series. Both these series were published under the old membership model, and we collected them as they were published for very fair prices. Many of us here are long time FS customers nee members. It would be a nice gift to many if they did. I too doubt they will reprint these - nor the Patrick O'Brian series. Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd noticed it. Australia! Folio books are more expensive there!) >3 Emily_Jones51: (I really feel for the people in ROW, esp. Don't forget it's really just the later volumes that command the higher prices. Even at £2500 that's over £200 per volume, way overvalued imo. >3 Emily_Jones51: There's one seller on ebay who has the Rainbow books listed for over 5000 GBP (Seriously), and I pitched an offer to him for half price, but he said they're worth 10,000 GBP and he's "gifting" them at the current price. It happened to me once and it was a little disconcerting :) Don't expect to post your Folio wishlist and have them all published in the next catalogue, though. "The" Mole is a bit misleading as it's not always the same person but comments and issues are noted and may be acted upon, sometimes in real time. >3 Emily_Jones51: Who is this mole everyone keeps talking about?įSD is continually monitored by one or more Folio employees, depending on how busy they are. ![]() My guess is that the main base of operations (printing, warehouse) is currently in mainland Europe (orders being sent from Spain) and the weak pound is impacting profit margins. ROW has been reverted to UK price levels, and AU/US/CAD has been quite a lot higher for a long time. A price increase like this is not based on a few weeks of bad performance in the new collection, but a long term expected profit/loss analysis. They tried a Rest of World hike earlier on which did not have the desired effect (ROW is a small part of FS' market), so now they're targeting their largest market it would seem. The reason for the price hike is anyone's guess. He is now a household running gag basically, with people making suggestions or jokingly threatening the mole. ![]() >3 Emily_Jones51: It has been known that bugs on the site were fixed after being reported here, hence talk of a mole from FS infiltrating FSD to spy on us and find out what is broken/should be altered/is the opinion on release of X/should be released. Which isn't to say there aren't collectors willing to pay silly prices, just maybe not as many as you'd imagine. I've only had one of those offers rejected. Anecdotally I've bought several volumes from both eBay and Abe after contacting the sellers and offering a significantly reduced price. I see the same sellers listing the same books at the same astronomical prices time after time on eBay with so signs of a sale. One small word of caution - the price a seller asks is not necessarily the price it sells for. Same goes for the later O'Briens, for the Master and Margarita and any other title fetching ridiculous prices on eBay or Abe or wherever. Think about how many people are willing to pay the inflated prices, times that by 100 and you're still not nearing the kind of numbers they need to turn a reasonable profit. ![]() The Mole is semi-permanently encamped here.Īs for the Rainbow series I suspect the problem is there being insufficient demand, as Folio sees it, to reprint. You can save yourself the trouble emailing. ![]()
